Dear Faculty Chair/Curriculum Leader,
Being a middle manager is tough. You not only have to take the demands from senior administrators and implement strategies they ask you to implement into your department, you also have to support your faculty to implement them. All this is meant to help the students to perform better academically.
This is a collection of resources, which was developed for the science leader, but it can be adapted by other department leaders. In this package, as you will see from the preview, are five PD topics. You can use these in departmental meetings to share with your faculty. Three of these five have tasks you can set your faculty and engage them in feedback and discussions in the follow-up meetings. The PDs are designed as Action Research projects your faculty, and even you, can carry out in your classroom - who knows maybe these local sessions may encourage you to look into educational research.
There are also other documents included in the package you can use for departmental improvement - like the departmental planner, strategies for keeping calm, a checklist of the classroom (good for new teachers), lesson design, student survey (if you are interested in knowing what students think of science - another great research idea if you are looking to go into educational research), teacher self-reflection (for the green and growing teacher) and also the Lesson observation protocol - which you will find free on this site anyway. But I included it here so you don't have to download it again - time is indeed precious :)
Altogether there are 82 pages, but an year (maybe more) long of development.
Hope you find this useful.
