This close read activity for Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury examines the novel's opening paragraphs and includes one of the most recognized first lines ever written!
*** All of my close read activities not only ask students to identify or define elements, but they require students to analyze the How and Why of the text:
How did the author craft this text?
How does it affect the reader?
Why did the author write it this way?
This higher level analysis increases rigor, student achievement, and the ability to make connections beyond the text.
Students will be required to:
Identify examples of personification
Analyze the effect of personification on readers
Analyze tone and identify diction to support the analysis
Analyze the effect of comparisons (simile and metaphor) on the reader
Identify purposeful text structure and diction
