The Power Point here has 12 slides. 4 slides are famous quotes about working hard and not giving up. 8 slides are celebrities and ways that they have 'failed' in their past. I have printed each of the slides out, laminated and cut them out, and created a bulletin board in my class room. Around these slides I cut out letters and made motivational phrases like "Don't Give Up" "Never Quit" and "Keep Trying!"
Online, you can also search for a video of Michael Jordan listing off ways he has 'failed' in his life. We watch this video in class, discuss whether or not Michael Jordan would be considered a failure, and why or why not. Then, I flip through the power point to reinforce the quotes and examples on the bulletin board. The students all pick one person that they are most surprised has failed or someone they can relate too, look up to, etc. They write a free form response to this, and also then connect it to their own life. What's the life lesson and why does they matter for us? What does this tell us about failing?
Could also just use as the Power Point (and not create a bulletin board) and convert the quotes onto a worksheet for students to read, select, and respond to.
