In this lesson, students will learn about what it means for a product to be fair trade and the impact these types of products have on the earth and the people who produce or prepare these goods. Students will research commonly consumed goods such as chocolate, coffee, or bananas to trace the production, costs, and the social and environmental impact of that particular item to see fair trade in action. Students can even make a difference in their schools by investigating products in their school cafeteria and vending machines, and drafting a letter to include more fair trade options.
