It has been hard for me to find enough creative resources to help my students practice the Faire Causatif (faire + infinitive) construction without getting bored. This activity seems to help...and gives students an injection of culture, history and reading comprehension work at the same time!
Students begin by going to the website: http://www.versaillespourtous.fr/fr/611_P_Journee_Intro.php
Here, they read about "Une Journée du Roi" in accessible French complete with photos of Versailles, illustrations of Louis XIV's court and period music. They then complete the handout to describe what the king does for himself and what he has done for him during a typical day. Finally, they brainstorm a list of household chores and write a short paragraph from Louis XIV's perspective describing all of the things that he has done to maintain his royal home. This short activity is a great way to cap off a grammatical focus on Faire Causatif while giving students a little contextualized practice.
