This is a novel unit focusing on Gail Carson Levine's fantastic work of fiction "Fairest". (Author of Ella Enchanted)
Fairest is very loosely based on the fairy tale Snow White. It follows a young girl named Aza. Aza lives in a kingdom where beauty and singing are prized before all else. Aza has the most beautiful voice in the kingdom, but is considered ugly by others and herself. She must come to accept herself as she is all while working to undo magic spells, foil plots against the king, and falling in love.
This unit plan includes daily instructional worksheets, worksheet keys, three essay prompts, a multiple choice test with key, as well as a short answer test with key.
The worksheets include daily reading selections, short answer questions, critical thinking questions, vocabulary practice, and much, much more!
I use this novel to improve independent reading skills, conflict and characterization analyzation, and work on vocabulary. The story is engaging and fun and students can relate to Aza and her struggle to accept herself.
