This fairy project came about as a result of requests by my first and second graders. I’m so glad I took their suggestion because they were so engaged! We look at some pictures of fairies, talk about where they might live, and what magical powers they might have. Lots of imaginative ideas here! There’s a sweet story behind each painting. This is the age when the kids are losing their baby teeth, so it’s fun to tie in the tooth fairy as well.
After drawing the fairy together (on 9” x 12” watercolor paper), the children add their own details and a background in oil pastels. They enjoy experimenting with the watercolors to see how different colors mix to make new colors. I love the kids’ free use of color!
