This lesson is a great way for K-5 teachers to incorporate engineering design core discipline ideas with environmental studies. It uses the outdoors and natural items and the wonderful book "Fairy Houses" by Tracy Kane as a springboard for the design and optimizing the design processes.
This lesson is suited for all students in grades k-5. I have used it at every level with great success.
This lesson is also a good one to start with if you or your students are reluctant about using the outdoors as a classroom.
This is the perfect simple lesson to segue into Environmental and Ecosystems studies.
