This kit includes 7 activities based on your favorite Fairy Tales! But these aren't your typical worksheet-based "activities"...the activities in this kit will get your kids up and moving and also creating their own artistic products, all while studying fairy tale and literacy-related concepts!
1.) Character Trait Inferences
2.) Fact Vs. Opinion
3.) Compare and Contrast
4.) Fairy Tale Vocabulary
7.) Fairy Tale Elements (Begins with Once Upon a Time, Good Vs. Evil, Numeric Patterns of 3's and 7's, Evil Queen, Takes Place in a Far Away Land, Talking Animals, Happy Ending, and Element of Magic)
1.) Snow White Character Riddles
Students make inferences with window-like flaps that reveal the characters in Snow White based on character traits.
2.) Jack and the Beanstalk Fact and Opinion Activity
Students cut and sort cards into facts and opinions. Facts are glued inside of beanstalk, opinions are glued outside of beanstalk.
3.) Fairy Tale Comparison
Students research two different fairy tales or two of the same fairy tales but from different cultures. Students then compare and contrast the two stories.
4.) Fairy Tale Vocabulary Hunt
Students will get up and moving with this activity! Students are placed in teams and assigned a fairy tale. Students will hunt down their vocabulary words by locating cards that have their fairy tale's character only. Teams have to be careful not to find other teams cards because other teams have different vocabulary words. Vocabulary words are based on each story. Stories included in this activity are Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Rapunzel, Snow White, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and Little Red Riding Hood. Cards come in black and white and colored versions to fit your printing needs.
After reading a variety of fairy tales, students will create-a-character! They will pick their favorite fairy tale character and create it using the template but also add their own unique style to the character with any materials you can provide (crayons, craft sticks, fabric/cloth, googly eyes etc.) Students will then write how the character thinks and acts in speech bubbles. Students will cut and mount onto construction paper. A great display piece!
6.) Cinderella Sequence
Students will color cards and order cards in numerical order according to events. Students are given a sentence strip. Students will glue cards in order on the sentence strip (vertically). Strips can hang vertically from your ceiling! Another great display piece!
7.) Fairy Tale Element Hunt
Students are again up and moving! Students are put into groups and search the room for fairy tale excerpts. Students read the excerpts and then determine which fairy tale element is portrayed in the excerpt! Again, cards are offered in color and black and white for your printing needs.
