Product Description
This resource was created out of a need to teach a somewhat difficult concept in a fun and approachable way. This unit combines the economic concepts of: need vs. want, goods and services, producer and consumers, trade, entrepreneurship, opportunity cost, and scarcity with the fairy tales: Goldilocks and The Three Bears, Three Little Kittens,The Little Red Hen, The Three Little Pigs, Jack and the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood. This unit supplies not only lesson ideas for how to use the stories for each of the concepts but also a followup activity for each story as well. There is a craft for needs and wants, a take home interview project for good and services, cut and paste sorts, tree maps for producers and consumers as well as a video link and writing project (my students loved this), and two different writing activities with graphic organizers. My students loved this unit not to mention they really understood the concepts. I hope this will become one of your favorite units too!
