This unit provides everything you need to introduce fairy tales, analyze stories for fairy tale elements, and compare and contrast two or more versions of the same fairy tale. As a bonus, this is also includes a coordinating writing unit in which students study a fairy tale and its versions, and then write their own version of that story, changing key elements. I also included everything you need to write fractured fairy tales, including fairy tale element cards and story planning pages. I also included fairy tale quickwrites to help students respond to the stories they are reading.
This is an awesome interactive, engaging unit that immerses students fully in fairy tales. There are so many neat extensions to this unit, including presenting their finished fractured fairy tales as a play, a puppet show, or publishing on Voicethread, SockPuppets, or any other mutlimedia platform.
I love using this unit in class, and have included all the materials you'll need:
-fairy tale book list
-anchor charts (fairy tale elements & fractured fairy tales)
-fairy tale element tracking pages
-fairy tale element cards
-fairy tale reading response pages (quickwrites)
-fairy tale planning pages and revision pages
-informational and opinion writing prompts
-rubrics & reflections
