This is a building and engineering projects based on Jack and the Beanstalk. Students will construct a parachute to help Jack escape the giant using everyday household and classroom items to complete this project. This activity is designed to encourage critical thinking and scientific reasoning skills, as well as, problem solving and teamwork.
Materials Needed: various paper products (coffee filters, newspaper, tissue paper, etc…); various types of string (yarn, thread, dental floss, etc…); a timer with milliseconds; a small action figure; and a balcony or other high place to drop.
Great for use in a STEM or gifted classroom!
It can be completed in one class period of an hour or less.
