Older students love fairy tales, too! I hunted for weeks looking for a Fairy Tale/Fractured Fairy Tale unit for my third graders, however, it seemed all I could find was units for K-2. So, in the end, I wrote my own and here it is! This is a high level, critical thinking unit focused on fairy tales and addressing Common Core shifts and demands.
In this three week, Common Core aligned unit, students will be reading a variety of fairy tales and writing in response to their reading. Suggested fairy tales are given, however, all of the activities can be adapted using any number of different fairy tales available.
All of the lessons are written following the Gradual Release of Responsibility model of student learning and include multiple opportunities for both formative and summative assessments.
Included in this unit:
Daily lesson plans spanning three weeks
Lessons written in gradual release format
Anchor chart suggestions
Pre-written student writing models/exemplars
Oral Presentation Rubric
Student worksheets and organizers that align with lessons
This unit was written for third grade, however, can easily be adapted for fourth or fifth grade.
My students loved this unit when I taught it and I know yours will, too!
