Why are some handouts *modified?

Differentiated Instruction
Presenting information to meet the needs of students with varied learning styles & abilities can be quite the challenge. How do you reach both groups? How do you support your struggling learners without abandoning your gifted ones – and vice versa? The standard and *modified version of certain handouts uses the same content, allowing you to provide teacher support & engagement to all levels of learners while still accounting for individual student needs.

Student Readiness
Writing is skill based and, like math, makes assumptions of background knowledge and proficiency when a new skill is introduced. Standard handouts are designed for students proficient in their foundational writing skills. Modified handouts are designed with additional support for students lacking in these skills.

Demonstration of Learning
At the end, all students will be demonstrate their understanding of the Unit concepts. However, on the modified handouts directions are broken down into smaller parts or word banks are provided, at times quantity is reduced so quality is not sacrificed.
