Standards-Based Fairy Tale Digital Activities for the Digital Classroom: RL3.2, RL3.3, RL4.2, RL4.3, RL5.2
Fairy Tales Gone Digital!
Teach common core standards with intentionality while studying fairy tale genre. This engaging digital fairy tale flipbook provides an opportunity for students to analyze the characters, setting, events, and the theme/message, as well as examining fairy tale elements. The flipbook is organized by colorful tabs to highlight the setting, good vs. evil, the task or challenge, the magic, and the message. Each section introduces the element and prompts students to think and answer questions relevant to the focus of that section. An adapted version of the fairy tale is included so students can highlight and annotate the text as they find evidence to support their answers. Both a digital and PDF copy of the fairy tale are provided so you have options as to how you want students to use the text. Teacher notes are also included to guide your instruction, along with reading response prompts in a PDF format. Note: "I Can" statements are on the cover of the digital flipbook and a PDF teacher copy is provided to post in the classroom.
Using this Beauty and the Beast digital flipbook, students will:
♛ Explain how the setting of the story is important to the plot.
♛ Describe characters’ traits, feelings, and actions.
♛ Explain how a characters’ traits, feelings, or actions influence the events in the story.
♛ Describe how the character changed in the story and explain why.
♛ Compare/contrast characters in the story.
♛ Determine the elements of a fairy tale, including good vs. evil, the task or challenge, and the magic, how these elements contribute to the plot.
♛ Determine the message of the fairy tale and how it applies to me, the reader.
♛ Find and use evidence from the text to support my answers.
