Additionally, reading conferences can be tied to the book reports. Review and discuss the student’s reading record and reading goals. Then choose 3-5 cells from a genre study worksheet. Use the report to engage the student in an authentic reading conversation. Record notes and observations directly on the worksheet. When the worksheet is complete, store it in the 3” teacher binder. The Genre Book Reports provide the evidence needed to accurately assess student reading. You will have a record of each student’s books, authors, comprehension, genres explored, book level, number of pages read, and effort.
