Fairytale mail provides a fun, engaging way for students to learn how to craft formal correspondence. I would normally begin this lesson but reading my students the story, The Jolly Postman to help familiarize them with letter writing and a variety of fairytale characters. Then the students will pick a character that they would like to be and craft a letter to another fairytale character.
The handout was for their final stage of writing and good copy. I also gave each of my students envelopes to address and design a stamp for. This way they could learn all aspects of letter writing.
A complete description of the unit, additional resources and a free assessment rubric can be found on my blog here: http://thejordanproject.ca/2013/11/07/teaching-moments-fairytales-story-retelling-and-imaginative-writing/
