This is a three, maybe four day activity. It is messy and hands-on. Students make their own fossil using clay and plaster of paris. Students write a report that claims they found this fossil and describes its location and age.
This activity works well with Earth Science, specifically fossils, the rock record and earth's history. Can support lessons on relative age, absolute ages, radiometric dating, law of superposition, and law of crosscutting.
A simple report template and grading form is included and can be used as a formative assessment.
