Incorporate this authentic celebration in your fall/ autumn theme or unit, teaching culture at the same time you are teaching Spanish. La Castañada is celebrated primarily in Cataluña and Barcelona, marking the harvest of chestnuts and other nuts/ fruits from the forest, along with the fall season. Celebrated on November 1, All Saint's Day, traditionally chestnuts are roasted and eaten, fall inspired crafts are done in elementary schools, the image of la castañera, a peasant woman selling chestnuts on the street, is prevalent.
