Everyone loves looking at the colorful leaves in the fall and maybe even a hike around the school to explore nature. Here are some common core based assessments, activities, and projects to do with you class. Some pages go to the books Going on A Leaf Hunt and Going on A Nature Hunt by Steve Metzger. These books are a great way to introduce your fall unit and common core standards.
Here is what you will get:
Class Made Leaf Hunt Book: Each student creates a page for the book. Students are to creatively think of what they want to “hunt” for and “find”. (example: We’re going on a school hunt. Let’s find desks and chairs or let’s go on a junk food hunt. Let’s find candy) *** color and black and white versions***
Going On a Leaf Hunt: Recognizing Landforms: Students will illustrate the 4 kinds of land forms
Going On a Leaf Hunt: Directional Words: Students draw leaves over, under, across, and around objects
Going on a Nature Hunt: Vocabulary and Action Verbs
Going on a Nature Hunt: Adjectives and Cloze of the pattern in the book
Class Made Leaf Hunt Book: Each student creates a page for the book. Students are to creatively think of what they want to “hunt” for and “find”.
Leaf Hunt: Students take this with them on the leaf hunt to check off materials needed to make the leaf book and leaf rubbings. Students also observe nature and illustrate 2 things they see.
Background knowledge: Self-reflection and using your senses.
Leaf Book: After they collect the leaves students glue them onto each page of the book. I recommend using card stock paper or construction paper.
