Fall Math: this printer friendly resource includes a variety of autumn themed activities focusing on addressing the common core standards in basic numeracy (0-10). It also includes color fall themed play dough number mats.
I have used this resource successfully with both kindergarten and first grade students.
Contents and Curriculum Focus
1 x cover title page for students to write their names and class
11 x pages dedicated to individual numbers (0-10). These pages involve students tracing and writing numbers as well as number words (e.g. "one"). It also involves students searching to identify each number within mixed number sets and coloring a set number of fall themed objects. Please refer to the preview file or thumbnail images to see sample pages. Please note that the number four is included with an open top for tracing/writing purposes but is included in some instructions in its alternative form so that students become familiar with both kinds formation.
2 x versions of 1 color by number scarecrow page. These pages involves identifying colors as well as numbers. One version features all of the color words in black whilst the other features the color words in their respective colors (e.g. the word "red" is colored red).
1 x number hunt recording page
1 x find the missing numbers. Students count in ones to identify missing numbers within a sequence of fall themed produce.
1 x color and count - how many? Students count in ones to identify and write the number of fall products in each set. Students can experiment with counting objects in different orders to reinforce the concept that the number of objects stays the same regardless of the order in which they are counted.
1 x draw and count. Students combine counting and drawing skills to complete this task.
1 x making sums. Students refer to images to create and solve addition sums.
2 x draw and count. Students create images to help them solve addition sums.
1 x counting out fall leaves and then adding one more. Students use their counting and drawing skills to visually reinforce the concept that each successive number name refers to a quantity that is one larger.
1 x counting out fall leaves and then subtract one. Students use their counting and drawing skills to visually reinforce the concept that each previous number name refers to a quantity that is one less.
2 x draw and count. Students create images to help them solve subtraction sums.
1 x comparing numbers of crows on scarecrows. Students use counting strategies to identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group
1 x compare 2 numbers. Students compare numbers and circle statements to compare each pair
11 x play dough mats featuring numbers and ten frames
The "Scarecrow Color by Numbers" activity can be made more challenging by using the black and white version (therefore forcing the students to read the color words rather than simply refering to the font colors of the color words).
Please note that this download is NOT suitable for non-US teachers. It makes frequent use of the word "color".
