Fall Pumpkin Halloween Math and Literacy Pack

This theme offers activities based on common core curriculum outcomes. It is meant to use for the first few months of the school year. The theme is meant to be used for the duration of one to two weeks. Included in this theme:

Three emergent alphabet and sight word readers (professionally illustrated). The readers are meant to introduce key learning concepts. The reader Autumn Time introduces the changes that take place during the autumn season, great for introducing your RIK outcomes (informational reader). The reader Down at the Pumpkin Patch is a fun fictional reader where the students identify and draw facial expressions on pumpkins (interactive comprehension component). It introduces the sounds of "Pp and Ss" within it story context, as well, as common sight words. Scarecrows Looking At Me is another fun fictional reader. Readers are offered in both color and black and white. The color readers can be projected on your interactive whiteboard or pictures cut and placed in a pocket chart along with the sentence to use for shared reading. The black and white versions are meant to use for guided or home reading.

Literacy Center Activities
-Alphabet picture cards for the students to sort initial focus letter sounds.
-Spin the Top Alphabet Game, students take turns spinning a top and identifying the initial sound heard of the picture the top lands on. They must print the letter that represents this sound.
-Race Around the Pumpkin Patch board identification game, students roll a die and race around the pumpkin race track, identifying the letter names indicated on the pumpkins, could also be a matching game (easier version).
-Race Around the Pumpkin Patch Sight Word Game, students roll a die and race around the pumpkin patch game board, identifying the focus sight word(s).

Math Center Activities
-This theme focuses on math activities where the students must identify and print numbers 1-10 (dotted cards). Games to develop and master this concept is also included. Pumpkin measuring activities and templates are also included.

Literature Recommendations
Included are recommendations for literature reading selections

Craft Suggestions
Craft suggestions related to the emergent readers and literature selections is included, as well, as the templates used to complete these crafts.

This unit is based on a balanced literacy approach to learning.
