Get your students moving, working together, and practicing their reading comprehension skills with this fall “around the room” reading activity for 4th and 5th graders!
Each year, it seems that my students need reading comprehension practice above and beyond the grade level skills that we study. They also need significant practice in nonfiction reading comprehension. I created this “Fall Reading Comprehension Activity” to meet this need.
Included in this resource are on various fall topics. With each passage are 4 comprehension questions that can be answered using the text.
The texts in this resource are short, but rigorous. They are written at the top of the lexile range for 4th and 5th graders. The questions can be answered using the information in the text. ***The reading comprehension questions in this set are not meant to trick or challenge students.
Around the Room Activity (recommended) – Get your students moving and reading by taping the texts and questions around the room. Pair or group your students in groups of three and have them go around the room (at your signal or at their own pace). They will read the text with their group and then answer the questions. Recording sheets are included but pieces of notebook paper will work fine. If you wish to pair your students and have more than 24 students, I recommend making two copies.
Regular Printable Version – I have also included a regular printable version of the passages and questions (one passage and set of questions per page) as another option. You could use this option in conjunction with the above. For example, you can use 8 of the passages for an around the room activity with option 1 and the other 4 as homework or independent practice using option 2.
