Description

This fall sight word practice provides 5 hands-on activities to solidify reading skills in kindergarten. Developed by an occupational therapist and using the Fry 100 Word List, each fall task addresses fine motor and visual motor skill development as well.

For each activity, choose whichever sight words you would like to work on (all 100 Fry words are provided for each activity). Activities are presented with an occupational therapy “twist” (to address fine motor, visual scanning, and visual motor skills) and provide a multi-sensory approach to learning sight words.

Fall activities include:

1- Leaves Change Colors

Story: “Leaves Change Colors” teaches children that leaves change colors in the fall.

Activity: Children pick a sight word card and color the leaf on it either yellow, orange, or red. Kids read the card then glue the leaves onto a tree to make it full of beautiful autumn leaves.

2- Leaves Fall!!

Story: “Leaves Fall” teaches that leaves fall from trees in the fall.

Activity: Kids make “leaves” by drawing small and colorful shapes onto the sight words! They use colorful crayons.

3- Mice Gather Food!

Story: “Mice Gather Food” teaches that mice gather seeds, fruit, grains, and plants and store them in their homes to eat in winter.

Activity: Kids pick a card with seeds, fruit, grains, and plants then try to say the accompanying sight word. Next, kids fill a mouse's home by gluing the cards in the mouse's home!

4- Birds Fly South!

Story: “Birds Fly South” shows children that some birds fly south in fall when the cold weather comes.

Activity: Kids pick a card with a certain bird on it and then they try to say the accompanying sight word. Next, kids glue cards to make a picture of the birds flying south in the fall!

5- I Feel Cold!

Story: “I Feel Cold” teaches children that the weather gets colder and colder in the fall. Blankets help us to feel warm!

Activity: Children select a sight word and try to read it. After, they roll Playdoh into "blankets", they press them onto the sight word!
