Students practice their sight words while building their confidence as readers. (I ask the students to highlight their sight words before they read the book.) Return sweep can be practiced with this book. Students also work on handwriting when writing the sight word see on each page. Students show their knowledge of color word recognition by coloring each leaf appropriately. The final page invites the reader to find a variety of leaf types outside. This activity encourages the student to pay attention to leaf edges and shapes. Use this as a springboard to graph the leaves collected by the students.
