This is a collection of Fall-themed story problems.
On each page the student:
-reads the problems and solves showing work
-explains in writing how they solved using key math vocabulary such as minuend, subtrahend, difference, ones place, tens place, regroup, etc
-writes the problem as a number sentence
-rounds their answer to the nearest hundreds place
-writes a fact family for their number sentence
This also comes with an answer sheet for each page.
Finally, there are "I Can..." statements related to CCSS that can be printed and posted.
This helps students with the CCSS 3.NBT.1 and 3.NBT.2.
Personally, my students needed a lot of work with regrouping and explaining their answers (like they need to learn to do for the common core), so I created this to help them. They all benefited greatly from this practice. I worked with them on solving these types of problems as an example during small group instruction, and had them complete independently for their independent math group. The study guides I created are easy for students to use to check their own work (or trade and grade). You could also do this whole group, as morning work, or as homework. There are a total of six story problems.
