Are you looking for some fun ideas to add some spark and excitement to your writing lessons this fall? This packet is full of writing activities that your students will love, as they provide meaningful writing practice for your students.

Writing can be so intimidating for both teachers and students as well. Sometimes adding a fun element to writing can help students eliminate their fear or hesitancy to write. When writing is presented in a slightly different way, interest and excitement can be injected into your class.

Use this packet to supplement your own writing lessons. No writing lessons are included in this packet, but your writing lessons can easily be incorporated into each activity.

Iā€™ve divided the packet into sections according to the type of writing:

ā€¢And Expository or Informational

While descriptive writing is not a separate category in many standards for writing, it is an important element that can help improve the other types of writing. Learning descriptive writing can help your students develop details for narrative writing which is stated in the Common Core Standards 3.3, 4.3, and 5.3.

What's Included?

Inside you will find a variety of resources and activities that can be used in a variety of ways. Use the activities as a stand-alone writing activity, or pair with writing lessons. You will find:

  • Graphic organizers
  • Flipbooks
  • Writing prompt activities
  • Writing glyph activity and more!

Each graphic organizer included in this packet comes two ways: with lines and without lines. You may choose to use the graphic organizer without lines if you would like your students to draw a picture as well as write about each topic on the organizer. This version is also great for differentiation. You may prefer that your students simply write about the topics. A lined version is provided for this.

Any of the graphic organizers may be used as a stand-alone activity, or you may choose to have your students write an essay once the graphic organizer is complete. Printable fall-themed writing pages are provided for most graphic organizers.

How to Use:

These pages work great for

ā€¢morning work

ā€¢prewriting activities

ā€¢fun Friday activities

ā€¢as a part of your writing curriculum.

How Much Time Does Each Activity Take?

ā€¢Graphic Organizers can easily be completed in 10 to 30 minutes. If students are drawing and coloring, this may take more time.

ā€¢Flipbooks may take at least one class period to complete.

Once complete, these activities look great displayed on walls or bulletin boards.
