This is an assignment packet that contains four assignments about the fall of four classical empires: The Hellenistic Empire (Alexander the Great), the Han Dynasty, the Gupta Empire, and the Roman Empire.
In assigment one, students read a chapter about Alexander the Great and identify strengths and weaknesses that relate to his empire's rise and fall. In the second assignment, students examine a flowchart documenting causes of the fall of the Han Dynasty, answer some short response questions, and write three paragraphs identifying political, economic, and social reasons for the dynasty's collapse. In assignment three, students use the literacy strategy of "attack the text" to read an article about the nomads of central Asia and the role they played in the Gupta Empire's collapse. Finally, students examine different perspectives about the fall of the Roman Empire and interpret them.
