This 4-part lesson contains 13 powerpoint slides, guided notes, a problem-solving activity, and exit ticket. After a quick review of the empire's highlights, the powerpoint starts off by directing students to brainstorm possible reasons for the fall of the empire. The rest of the slides focus on four main areas of problems for the empire: political, economic, social, and military. In addition, I have added notes to the bottom of most slides to help when lecturing.
The guided notes have bullet points for each area and spaces for questions to encourage thoughtful class discussions.
The final activity directs students to find a partner and come up with solutions for the political, economic, social, and military problems the empire faced. They are also able to relate this information to similar issues our world faces today.
An exit ticket or quiz is also attached so you are able to check for student understanding.
