Students read brief explanations about the causes of the the fall of Rome and an account of some of the empire's destruction. They answer 10 questions and complete 3 creative tasks. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.
Sample questions include:
--Explain the meaning behind the phrase "heavy lifting" in this context.
--Describe in your own words how internal political stability contributed to Rome's collapse.
--What did the legalization of Christianity introduce into the empire?
--What types of emotion does St. Jerome's writing evoke in the last two paragraphs? How does it reflect what we know will eventually happen to Rome?
The creative tasks include opinion based analysis of the causes of Rome's collapse, a social media inspired activity, and being an ancient emigrant out of Rome to somewhere else in Europe.
