Recognizing a group of five within a given set is an important skill for students to master before they begin to decompose numbers. This activity will allow students to try a different counting strategy while building a strong foundation of number sense.

K.CC.4 Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities.
K.CC.5 Count to tell the number of objects

How to play:

Students match the acorn five frames to the number cards. It is important for students to count on from five, rather than counting each acorn in the five frame. After they match each set, they complete the recording sheet.
