This fall themed packet is sure to be a hit with your first graders. It includes games that are aligned with the Common Core and are fun and engaging. My students LOVE these centers!
Games and activities included are:
Noun and Verb Sort - Students will sort (fall themed) nouns and verbs.
Short Vowel Word Sort- Students will sort words based on the vowels in the word.
Falling Rhymes- Students will match rhyming leaves to fall work mats.
What am I?- Students will solve fall riddles and predict what the answer is before checking their answers. (A favorite in my classroom!)
Apple Sight Words- Students will match sight words. (They can even put the life cycle of an apple in order in this activity.)
Mixed Up Poetry- Students are given three apple poems (including one on Johnny Appleseed) and have to sequence them. This helps build fluency and accuracy in reading!
Visualize this!- Students are presented with the opportunity to explore familiar fall scents and tastes in this activity and then write about them using strong adjectives.
Rotten Apples- a FAVORITE in my classroom. My students played this game well into December last year! I had to create more games like this because the begged me to play it! (This game helps build fluency and accuracy in sight words, CVC words, and CCVC words.)
Apple-Os- A really fun and engaging card game. Students will read short and long vowel words in this game. (You can choose which cards you use!)
Johnny Appleseed book- an original book on Johnny Appleseed is included in this packet.
Numerous recording pages are also provided.
Students will LOVE using these games to help strengthen their reading and phonics skills.
