This project includes a storyboard, rubric, and both student and teacher-made samples so you can see what the finished product looks like. It is easily adapted for whatever textbook/vocabulary set you’re using. I’ve personally used different versions of it with Avancemos, En Español, Ven Conmigo, and Realidades.
I would recommend printing the storyboard for students as it functions well as a pre-writing activity for students as they write their projects. In the past, I have added additional slides that ask students to compare and contrast their family traditions with those of the traditional Latino/Hispanic family, which meets additional ACTFL standards.
This project can be done in a variety of ways including, but certainly not limited to, digital storytelling presentations (I like to use ed.voicethread.com and Shadow Puppet apps), multimedia presentations (PowerPoint, Prezi, Google Drive, Keynote), posters, and books. All of the samples shown were created using apps that can be downloaded for free.
Links to student-made samples (with permission) and a teacher-made sample are below so you can see some possibilities.
This assignment usually takes my students 3-4 days to complete, give or take, and depending on much of the pre-writing and pictures you have them gather at home.
Please check out my other family/familia products; they form a really cohesive unit that will help your students completely master the content:
- Familia Information Gap Speaking Activity
-Familia Listening Activity
- based upon a podcast with native speakers
-Familia Native Speaker Practice Activity
- students listen to 4 native speakers talk about their families and answer questions
