What a FUN way to get students involved in their own personal history! Students present a five minute historical news brief about an evidence artifact from their family history! Students bring in fantastic mementos, relics, pictures, documents, diaries and media clips that support a story or claim.
This is a great daily class introduction activity or formal class presentation from upper elementary to high school. I use this in my grade 7 class, but my colleagues uses it in grade 10 and a teacher friend uses it in grade 5!
Here's what's included in the History Detective News Brief:
1. History Detective News Brief Requirement Handout
2. History Detective Artifact Ideas Class Handout or Post-able
3. A Sign Up Sheet
4. Student Speech Note-cards
5. A CCSS - ELA Aligned Speaking and Listening Rubric
6. Teacher Instructions!
This can be formally graded or can be a completely informal get to know the class activity!
