Students love to talk about themselves. This project allows students to think about their family history and where they come from. Family history can also be a sensitive subject, so for those students I allow them a chance to invent their family history. In the great debate of immigration, it is important to remember that we all come from someplace else, and that other languages and cultures make up the wonderful country that we share.
This project can be used independently or with novels such as "Flesh and Blood So Cheap", "The Giver", "Tuck Everlasting", etc.
This project can be used for lessons on diversity, tolerance, and other such themes. Great for all classrooms.
