Our school has a school-wide family math night. These music activities are designed for a variety of grade levels. Allow students to work with their parent to learn about the music & math connection.
Older students focus on the 4/4 time signature and add rhythm values together to determine if it is greater than, less than, or equal to the time signature. Then, compose their own rhythm patterns. Younger students reinforce rhythm reading from left-to-right and emphasize order. Next, compose their own rhythm patterns being sure to include a specific rhythm o a specific beat to reinforce the concept of order. The beginning students can sort, classify, and count instrument photos. Circle the number that has the most, put an "x" through the number that has the least.
These have been tested for understanding by parents and children! Great for use in your sub tub, too!
