In this research project, your students will read an article from The New York Times and build upon research that suggests that we’re happier, more resilient, and more unified as families when we understand our family’s grand narrative. They will seek out, through research, the family story of a single topic of their choice. This amazing assignment is the perfect link to the ninth grade curriculum that emphasizes the importance of storytelling in our lives in works like The Odyssey, mythology, and Of Mice and Men. It works as a research project at any grade level because it is authentic, meaningful, and well-structured. It requires students to interview, take notes on, and draw conclusions about their family's history. The document will explain the assignment, help them to choose a topic, help them to plan for interviews, help them to organize their notes into an outline. The final product is an essay, but you could adapt this into a presentation or other project format as well. Feel free to contact me if you'd like the editable Word version after you purchase.
