Family Vocabulary Lesson for Upper Level/AP Spanish
This vocabulary lesson is intended for upper level Spanish
students. Students should already be comfortable with basic family members (madre, padre, abuelo, abuela, tío, tía, etc.). The list of words covered includes extended family members such as bisabuelo(a), nieto(a), suegro(a), primo(a), yerno, nuera, and other words related to family such as: noviazgo, matrimonio, pareja, divorciarse, casarse, mimar, disciplinar, etc. Click here
to view the complete vocabulary list.
The vocabulary is aligned with Chapter 4
of the Pasajes
textbook for Spanish, but can be used in any upper level/AP Spanish
class working on a Family & Community
The lesson is designed to teach students more complex vocabulary having to do with family. Students will define vocabulary words in English, use circumlocution to express a vocabulary word, tell family stories, talk about first dates, distinguish between present subjunctive & indicative questions and phrases, and practice vocabulary study strategies. All activities are student centered and will get your students speaking in Spanish
and moving throughout the classroom.
In this download you will receive:
Complete Lesson Plan for 2 hours of class time
Powerpoint Presentation to guide the class through 8 fun & creative activities
Vocabulary List for La familia
La familia "No lo digas" game
Present Subjunctive vs. Indicative Question Sheet
There are two versions of the vocabulary list
. One has just the words in Spanish and students are to fill in the English translations, and the other is the same list with both the Spanish and English translations provided.
The No lo digas game
includes cards for 32 of the 45 vocabulary words. You will need to print and cut out the cards. I print on card stock and laminate the cards to prolong their life, and have the students do the cutting.
My students enjoy this lesson and yours will, too!
