In this download, you will receive each item below for ALL NINE people:
Wall and Journal Posters: There are two different posters you can choose from to print. Both posters are also included with blank spots for students to take notes and make their own posters if desired.
Ask and Answer Questions: Give this page to students BEFORE they read the nonfiction reading passages that are included (or any passage you would like to use). This is a great way to set up the purpose of reading for meaning and activate background knowledge and discussion.
Nonfiction Reading Passages: Have students read these passages (or read them aloud to them). Students can use close reading annotations to record their thinking as they read. This passage is also included in a one page version that will fit nicely in a composition notebook.
Mini-books: Students can have their own individual mini-book each Famous American. I like to use these during guided reading and students keep them in their journals.
Reading Comprehension Questions w/ Answer Key: You can use these pages to assess students’ comprehension after reading the nonfiction passages, or you can do it together as a class to review and summarize the information. These questions can also be used after reading the mini-books (included)
Timelines: There are two versions timelines for you to choose from- one involves writing and the other involves cutting/gluing. Use these timelines in conjunction with the included passages. All of the dates can be found clearly in the passages.
Character Traits Graphic Organizer: In each box, students should write a word that describes a character trait that the famous American displayed. Students can also include an example of how she/he displayed this trait in the box
Visual Literacy Directions for Teachers: This page explains how to use the historical photographs and graphic organizers included in this product. You can also use any other photograph of your choice if you would like to integrate more visual literacy lessons into your teaching.
Visual Literacy Picture: Share these photos with students. I like to put them on a PowerPoint slide and project them so they can see the pictures clearly and I can save paper.
Visual Literacy Graphic Organizer: Choose one of these graphic organizers to use with your students as they look closely at the photographs. These organizers will help to guide their thinking and be a starting point for collaborative discussions.
QR Research Codes: Students can be given these pages in conjunction with a device to be connected to kid-friendly web information about the famous American. I often just print 5 of these pages and tape them around the room for students to scan. This is a great activity for early finishers!
QR Code New Learning Notes: Students can use these pages to record the new facts they learned about the famous American while exploring a QR code. This will help to keep them accountable for their learning
Vocabulary Flip Book: Use these flip book templates to teach the important vocabulary words you want your students to master during your famous American unit
Writing Publishing Paper: Use these papers with any writing activity you have your students do about each famous American
PebbleGo Graphic Organizer: This graphic organizer can be used by students to take notes when they view the biographies of each famous American on PebbleGo. Once they fill in the graphic organizer, I have my students use the publishing paper (included) to write what they learned about her/him in their own words.
Vocab Bulletin Board Cards: Add these cards to your bulletin board display for visual supports.
Close Reading Posters + Close Reading Text: The poster includes a suggestion for completing each close read with the included text. These steps can be completed all on one day or multiple days, depending on your students’ needs. After students have completed the close reads, they will be prepared to answer the constructed response questions.
Constructed Response Questions and Graphic Organizers: The constructed response questions come with graphic organizers for students to organize their thinking before answering in writing. Each question also comes with a sample answer.
Jeopardy PowerPoint Review Game: There are 9 fun Jeopardy games full of questions about each famous American. These are great to use for review right before students test over the material- my kids never realize they are learning when we play Jeopardy!
Bulletin Board Poster Display: Color AND black and white versions included
