PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Samuel "Sam" Houston was an American politician and soldier, best known for his role in bringing Texas into the United States as a constituent state. His victory at the Battle of San Jacinto secured the independence of Texas from Mexico.

Houston was the only American to be elected governor of 2 different states, he was also the only governor within a future Confederate state to oppose secession. When he refused an oath of allegiance to the Confederacy that led to his removal from office by the Texas secession convention.

In this newly formed country, Sam Houston became its George Washington. The city of Houston was named in his honor in 1836, and that same year, the newly christened Lone Star Republic elected him as its president. After TX joined the United States in 1846, Houston served as a U.S. Senator until 1860.
