This unit was designed to correlate to the historical portion of the common core standard RI2.3- Describe the connections between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in a technical procedure.
It also covers the social studies standard SS2.C.2.5- Evaluate the contributions of various African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, veterans, and women.
The unit can be used for whole group, small group, or centers. It includes:
-Vocabulary flip book
-5 articles and 5 sets of sequencing cards (Martin Luther King Jr., Susan B. Anthony, Cesar Chavez, Abraham Lincoln, and Henry Ford)
-A two sided response sheet that goes along with the sequencing cards (can be used with any article)
-Higher level questioning (requiring the students to relate the events they have read about to life today)
-Culminating activity- cut and paste mini-book to keep track of famous Americans they have learned about
