Have students research famous Canadians and what makes them great with this graphic organizer/poster research project.
My students love to research. I show students the posters and what information they have to find. I also tell them that they need to figure out two character traits that have made the person that they are researching great. The traits chosen must not be synonyms. (Note: Character traits are discussed before doing this mini project so the students already know what they are.) I ask that the traits be backed up with at least 3 pieces of evidence. You can require less than three. I find most students can easily come up with two, but three is more difficult. Requiring three pieces does push their thinking and requires more time spent researching and thinking. I have students take notes. To do this I print off this file on 8.5 x 11 paper. For the final copy I enlarge it and print to 11 x 17 on the photocopier.
