If you have been searching for a fun way for your students to learn about famous inventors and inventions from long ago, as well as today, this product is sure to be a hook, line, and sinker. Your students will probably make the connection with the popular T. V. series, Shark Tank, and who knows…perhaps one of your students could be inspired to be the next entrepreneur on the show!
The following items are included:
*Printables with 20 famous inventors and a picture of their invention for a student booklet
*A flipchart that coordinates with the students’ booklet
*Colorful Task Cards
*Showdown directions and Showdown recording card (Kagan Structure)
Your students can create their own Shark Tank-themed invention booklet with the printables I have included or the ones that you choose for your students. I have also included a blank template (slide 22) that your students can use to program with other famous inventors that they research or that you want them to know.
The task cards could be used in a variety of ways including:
*Kagan Structures (Fan and Pick, Quiz Quiz Trade, Showdown, etc.)
Further research (see printable on slide 24) will be needed in order to complete some of the following ideas; however, some other ways that you can cross the curriculum with this product include:
*Math – Allow the students to discover the age of the inventors when they made their discovery, how old they were when they died, the distance from where they were born to where your students live, etc.
*Geography – Allow your students to locate where the inventors were/are from; identify the continent of their home
*History – Students can research to find out what the inventors’ profession/educational background was/is
*Grammar – Students can correctly write proper nouns and use commas correctly (people’s names, cities, states, dates)
*Vocabulary – Students can research unknown words or the inventions from the descriptions on the printable sheets
