Bingo: Famous People Bingo
Famous People Bingo will engage students not only in the excitement of playing the game, but in discussions about each of the famous people used in the game. For grades 3-8+, the discussions could include information about who these people were, their accomplishments, obstacles they may have encountered, and their effect on present day life. There are 30 pictures of famous people including scientists, mathematicians, philosophers, musicians, and civil rights leaders. They are diverse in terms of gender, race, and nationality.
Each game lasts about 5 minutes, and can be used as a reward at the end of class time, or as part of a lesson. The page with the 30 teacher pictures can be cut apart, the pieces chosen at random and placed on the wall or under the document reader for students to see.
There are 4 Bingo cards on each of the 9 pages, which can be cut apart to create 36 individual games. Students can play using bingo chips or coins to cover the winning squares. For years of use, the cards can be laminated, or places in small sandwich bags, taped on the back, and dry erase markers can be used to mark winning squares.
