Product Description
This is a PowerPoint Presentation with a lesson to last one or two sessions but that can be expanded for more. Two Quotations which are apparently contradictory are explored. Students are asked which they agree with more and to offer explanations of their choice. After discussion they are asked to write the first paragraph of a short, short story that will illustrate the wisdom of their chosen quotation. In essence, this lesson is showing how the quotation is the Big Idea of the story they are writing. By approaching the topic backwards, from Big Idea to context of story, students become more aware of the nature and characteristics of the Big Idea in other written works as well. The subject matter is engaging and students respond with enthusiasm and creativity. The lesson is aligned with Common Core Standards.
