Description

PHYZ

This is part of the classroom curriculum I developed for use with my high school physics students. This particular topic is covered exclusively in my AP Physics 2 (and previously AP Physics B) course.

JOB

This assignment focuses on a single theme and is most often given as homework, but could be completed in class as well. Students should be able to complete “job” worksheets on their own.

FANTASIA ON THE PHOTOELECTRIC EFFECT

In the photoelectric effect, massless photons liberate electrons from a metal surface. Those photoelectrons carry less energy than the incident photons. The difference is the work function.

Here, a model of the photoelectric effect is imagined. A light weight baseball hits a see-saw catapult, launching a heavy medicine ball. The medicine ball carries less energy than the incident baseball. The difference is like the work function.
