This program consists of eight different lessons: alphabet, basic phrases, numbers, colors, classroom objects, animals, body parts, clothing, fruits and vegetables, and verbs. Each lesson may be extended by lengthening various activities, by incorporating some of the additional activities, or by dividing the lessons based on the time available. All of the lessons include the lesson plan and printable materials. The bolded information indicates materials included, and there is a list of basic materials needed to be supplied by the teacher.
My philosophy in teaching has been woven throughout this program. I believe learning should be motivating, relevant and active. I have designed this program to include many hands-on and active learning strategies to create an environment that is both interesting and meaningful. It also allows teachers the flexibility to tailor the activities to the skill level of their students and the time alloted for class. Many of the activities require no writing, but opportunities for writing can be easily incorporated. This curriculum can be used in a variety of situations such as an elementary program, home schooling, an after school Spanish club, parent/student classes, an exploratory program, and a summer program. I have taught this program in all of these areas, and have been rewarded with great success.
When learning a second language, repitition is a key factor in success. Each lesson reviews previous material while building their knowledge through new vocabulary and activities. I have included posters of the primary vocabulary to display as a reference tool for students. Additional vocabulary can be found on their take-home sheet for each lesson.
