Many fantasy books have similar aspects in common. This product is designed to get students talking about elements that many Fantasy books have.
The worksheet has areas for students to compare the following elements:
-How the story gets going - is the main character unsuspecting?
-The protagonist and the 'good guys'
-The antagonist or the 'bad guys'
-Common Mythic symbols (wands, rings, books, swords)
-Common Archetype characters (evil stepmother, witch, dwarf)
One page is more suited to hand out as a worksheet for the students to fill out about their own book. The second is more suited to compare two different books. I used this with my 6th grade class. They were each reading a fantasy book but all books were different. I paired them up and had them fill in the second worksheet about not only their book but their partner's as well.
I'd love to hear some feedback, as well! Please leave me a comment! :)
