In this packet, I have included tools for teaching students about Fantasy in literature. First, you will want to introduce the elements of Fantasy to your students with the poster and the Interactive Journal insert.
Next, allow students to explore the genre. The kids are genuinely surprised as to how many different types of books are available to them.
Once students have finished their books, they complete the Fantasy Book Analysis form. Students write a brief summary, analysis and response to what they read using the provided guide. I remind students that to successfully analyze literature, we need to remember that authors make specific choices for particular reasons. That leads to asking questions while reading and looking for those answers as you continue through the story.
Finally, I have my students present their books to the class using the Book Sharing form. This allows them to introduce the book to their classmates who may be interested in reading it.
I hope you enjoy this resource.
