I use the movie "Far & Away" in my American Studies class. It is 140 minutes long, but it does a good job of demonstrating the reasons for Irish immigration in the late 1800s, what most immigrants found when they arrived in America, ethnic enclaves, the ward boss, and Westward Expansion. The girls in class like the love story, and Tom Cruise, and the boys in class like the fight scenes. Here I have posted the study guide, with my answers filled in. For student use, you need only delete my answers, and pass out the list of questions. There are a total of 13 questions, and one in which they are required to do a bit of internet research.
